Advent and Lent
Advent is often called a 'Little Lent'. In the days leading up to Christmas it is important that our children think of doing things that help us to be better people or help the world to be a better place. Advent is always a special time of year in school with Prayer Stations and fund raising. Year 6 remind us about the meaning of Advent and the role of the Prophets in predicting the bith of Christ, in their beautiful assembly on Advent Day. Due to Covid, Year 6 recorded a relection on the real meaning of Advent.
Please see videos below.
Advent day is a day off timetable so that the children can think carefully about their Advent promises. This year they made Angels to decorate our huge tree in the hall - each one carrying a personal promise that they make between themselves and God The children also enjoyed decorating their classrooms and making cards and Christmas crafts.
Unfortunately, EYFS and KS1 are unable to perform a Nativity this year. However, each class made 2D or 3D pieces of art work that describe a scene in the Nativity Story. These were then pulled together to make a short video which depicts the Nativity. We distributed this with our families and friends which they really enjoyed watching. (see video below)
Please take some time alone or with your child, read the following reflections and think about the real meaning of Advent during these troublesome times.
First Sunday of Advent Reflection
Deacon Peter has provided us with a link to the Justice and Peace website. Their weekly Advent Reflections provide prayers and practical ways to make a difference.

The children had lots of fun being creative and exploring the real meaning of Advent in school today.
The children wrote their advent promises on stars this year and hung them proudly on our beautiful tree.
Year 6 led a beautifully reflective assembly that explored the real meaning of Advent. The assembly was performed in front of Year 5 and live streamed to the other classes,
Thank you to Deacon John who was able to attend and light the first candel on our Advent wreath.
Advent Prayer Bags 2020
Each child in school received an Advent bag this year which contained numerous resources and activities for the children to explore at home with their families; a unique opportunity for the children to discuss, pray and reflect upon this very special time in our Liturgical calendar.

Lent 2022
This years Lenten fundraiser was to support CAFOD's emergency Ukranian appeal. The children took part in a 'Walk with Ukraine' sponsored walk. We walked an amazing 502 miles in total around our St. Annes' mile track and our children and families raised an astounding £4,094 to support the DEC and provide emergency aid to those families seriously in need of help in Ukraine.
Thank you to everyone who sponsored the children for this year's Lenten Appeal. Your generosity will go a long way in supporting those in depseperate need.
Year 3 and Year 4 performed the Easter story to their parents and the whole school. Their singing and acting was exemplary. Well done to Y3 and Y4 for telling such an important story in an engaging and reflective way.

Wednesday 10th March Reflection
Lenten Live Stream 2021
On Tuesday 23rd March, Year 3 were lucky enough to participate in a Lenten Live Stream, led by Dan and Emily from One-Life Music. This event was live streamed from St Christopher's Church in Codsall, Staffordshire. This brought togther children from both the Shrewsbury and Birmingham Diocese in reflection and prayer.
As part of their interaction, Year 3 learned to sign a hymn, My Hands are Your Hands, reminding us that we are all disciples of Jesus, an important message at our most important time in our Litergical calendar. They were asked to illustrate their words demonstrate their own feelings and thoughts about the hymn- some of their pointiant work can be seen below.
The children also enjoyed having a glimpse into a real church, recognising the symbols that they have researched during our lessons, and, of course, seen in their own churches too.
'Lent Through a Lens' photo competition 2021
Thank you to all the children who entered our 'Lent Through a Lens Competition'. We have some talented photographers at St. Anne's. You have managed to capture Lent in God's natural world, well done! Thank you to those who donated money to 'Missio'.
Passion Story - Lent 2019
The children of Y3/4 perform the story of Easter each year. This year we were priviledged to welcome residents of Richmond Village and our parents/ grandparents to come and watch our performance.
Easter Hats 2019
This year Mrs Mosely set all the children a challenge. Who can make the best Easter hat using recyclable materials! Well - what a hard decision it was for staff to decide on the winners.
Lenten Challenge 2019
Each year, the children of St. Anne's are tasked with raising as much money as they can for a given charity (this charity may change annually.) The teacher is given £5. The children in the class vote on the fundraiser they would like to do. An example of fundraisers that St. Anne's have had in the past are sponsored silences, sponsored reads, wear your pyjamas to school day, bad hair day, stationary sale, cake sale etc. The children have lots of fun yet learn the importnace of Almsgiving during this most important time in our liturgical calendar.
