Governance at St. Anne's

Statement of Governance 2024

As a governing body, we are proud to have worked with the staff and children of St Anne’s Catholic Primary School throughout the last academic year and continuously to keep “Christ at the heart of all we do.” Mrs Ferguson, her leadership team and all members of staff are constantly seeking ways to raise standards and provide the best education possible for our wonderful children so that each one of them can thrive and achieve his or her potential. The governors extend our thanks to every member of the team.

In the last school year, the school has worked hard to develop a broad and balanced curriculum which inspires and motivates children, encouraging them to aspire to be the best they can be and to understand the context in which they live, placing the teaching of the Catholic Church and British values at the centre. The school has been especially proud to have reached the OPAL Platinum Award and the Sports Mark Platinum Award, both of which demonstrate our commitment to the health and wellbeing of the whole child. Other highlights in the school year include quidditch day, world book day, NSPCC number day, Advent day and Mission Day to mention but a few.

We are grateful to the PTA, who have continued to work hard to raise money for the school, as well as providing much appreciated and enjoyable social events, such as bedtime stories, the fireworks extravaganza, bingo and the Christmas and end of year discos.

In September 2023, the governing body adopted a new way of working, moving to six half-termly meetings a year instead of three termly full-board meetings plus three termly committee meetings. This new arrangement has provided a sharper focus on key issues, enabling us to carry out our functions as a strategic and overseeing body more effectively, as well as being regular visitors to the school. This aids us in ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding, health and safety, financial monitoring, the quality of education, support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We look forward to supporting the school in the next academic year as it builds on the successes of 2023/24.

I would like to thank all parents, carers and the school community for their continued efforts as we work together to continue to provide a safe and exciting learning environment for our children.
